New Features

Simplified collection sharing with external teams

Collection sharing is being streamlined to make it easier to provide an external team with secure access to a complete collection.

Instead of requiring the recipient to supply a team ID before the collection can be shared, the sender will only need to enter the recipient’s email address. The recipient can then sign in and choose which of their teams should receive access. Invitations sent to recipients without an existing Pointerra account now provide clearer information about creating a trial account.

For organisations that require authenticated sharing, collection access will be limited to signed-in users and aligned with the existing secure project-sharing model. This provides a simpler experience for both the sender and recipient while maintaining controlled, account-based access to shared data.

Improved point cloud classification schemes controls

The point cloud classification interface has been enhanced to make classification schemes easier to configure, reuse and apply consistently across an organisation.

Company administrators can now set a default classification scheme. When configured, the default scheme is identified with a pin icon in the Classification Schemes list and is automatically preselected during point cloud uploads.

A built-in, read-only ASPRS LAS preset is also now available. Users can copy it as a starting point for creating a customised scheme. A new Copy action is available for both preset and existing schemes, allowing users to duplicate a scheme before making changes.

Classification visibility controls have also been improved. Individual point types can now be configured as hidden by default. This makes it possible to suppress classes such as low points, noise or other non-essential data when a dataset is first opened, while still allowing users to show them when required.

Additional improvements include:

  • CSV import and export support for an optional hidden_by_default column.

  • Direct editing of notes within the scheme details panel.

  • Clearer indication when classes are hidden in the Viewer, including when the classification panel is collapsed.

These changes provide a more scalable way to standardise point cloud presentation across teams while retaining flexibility for project-specific requirements.

Automated point cloud quality reports

Point cloud processing can now generate an automated quality report for the source LAS or LAZ files included in an upload job.

During processing, the platform analyses each source file and extracts relevant technical metadata and quality information. Results from multiple files are then consolidated into a single downloadable Microsoft Word report associated with the completed processing job.

The report provides a consistent record of the source data used to build the processed point cloud and can assist users with:

  • Reviewing file-level metadata and characteristics.

  • Identifying inconsistencies or potential issues across large collections of source files.

  • Confirming that expected source data was included in the processing workflow.

  • Retaining an auditable quality record alongside the resulting point cloud dataset.

Access to report generation can be enabled at the company level. Once a report has been generated, authorised users can download it from the relevant job record.

This capability is intended to standardise quality review across large point cloud datasets and reduce reliance on manual, file-by-file inspection. Contact Pointerra support if you are interested in trialing this feature.

General

  • Point cloud and DEM export improvements

    • The coordinate reference system can now be selected from a company favourite CRS.

    • Tile-width units are now clearly displayed in feet or metres.

    • A warning is now displayed when the export does not fit within the bounds of the target CRS.

  • Improved processing performance for striped TIFF imports.

  • Improved CRS validation to ensure uploaded data falls within the specified CRS bounds.

  • Folder structures within ZIP archives are now preserved when importing photo sets and 360-degree photos.

  • Invalid vector objects are now skipped during import rather than causing the entire import operation to fail.

  • 3D model imports and processing

    • Improved validation of 3D model coordinates
      3D model imports now filter geometry containing out-of-range coordinates that could otherwise cause processing failures or produce excessively large dataset bounds. Details of any filtered geometry are available through the warning information on the dataset page.

    • Added warnings for models positioned near the coordinate origin
      A warning is now displayed when a 3D model is imported with coordinates close to the origin, helping users identify potentially incorrect georeferencing or coordinate configuration.

    • Fixed ZIP imports containing multiple 3D model files
      Fixed an error that could occur when importing ZIP archives containing multiple supported 3D model input files.

Portal UI

  • Added an area-of-use map to the coordinate system chooser for point clouds, datasets and exports. This assists users in validating that the correct CRS has been selected.

Viewer

  • Improved layer management for the 2D Map.

  • Made further improvements to lighting options in the Viewer.

Photogrammetry

  • Improved photogrammetry mesh creation across different regions to ensure the datum is set correctly.

  • Photogrammetry outputs are now added to the selected output collection.

  • Photogrammetry DEM and orthomosaic TIFF outputs are now optimised for improved performance and compatibility when viewed or used outside Pointerra.

Bug Fixes

  • Added support for unnamed structures in PLS-CADD imports used by Poles and Wires Analytics.

  • Fixed an issue where a photogrammetry ground control point position could be reset when reviewing an existing point.

  • Fixed external exports for projects shared from another company.

  • Fixed a point cloud layer visibility issue that occurred when exiting the Mesh Clash Detector.

  • Fixed a performance regression affecting classification editing.

  • Fixed an issue that could prevent interrupted point cloud uploads from being resumed.

  • Fixed reprocessing failures affecting datasets that use external source files larger than 5 GB.

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the Viewer to crash when multiple region or crop operations were active.

  • Fixed an issue affecting project dataset links where the point cloud name contained a % character.

  • Fixed an issue that prevented classification editing sessions from starting for users who had the required Edit Analytics permission but did not have broader editing permissions.
