Locking the rotation and zoom point

You can lock the focus point for rotating and zooming, by using the Set Focus Point tool

When in locked mode, all rotation actions will rotate about the focus point, instead of the current mouse point. All zoom actions (including using the quick zoom keyboard shortcut keys: Z = zoom in, SHIFT + Z = zoom out) will zoom in/out about the focus point.

TIP: This can be particularly useful for navigating around and focusing on a particular object/location within enclosed spaces when viewing complex terrestrial scan data. If you are in this mode, then you will be able to easily zoom through walls and other barriers.

Setting the focus point

Activate the tool, by clicking on the toolbar button. Then click a point in the scene to set the focus point. You will see a red marker in the scene that indicates that the focus point is set. A status message will also display to highlight that you are now in this mode.

NOTE: You can also set the focus point from the right click context menu in most cases.

Note that you can also use CTRL + Left Click as a shortcut to setting the focus point. You can repeat this action to quickly change the focus point.

Re-centre your view on the focus point

Click on the recenter button on the Focus Point Indicator to recenter your view around the focus point.

If you hold down the SHIFT key when clicking the recenter button, the view will automatically reset to a top-down plan view (north up), with the focus point in the centre of the window. The camera will also be set at a height that approximately matches the  camera height when the action was invoked.

NOTE: You can also us the Plan View shortcut key (the "2" key) to do this. You can also recenter the view on the focus point using the right click context menu.

Releasing the focus point

Click the close button on the Focus Point Locked indicator. The focus point marker will disappear, indicating that you are back into normal mouse/keyboard control mode.

NOTE: To avoid confusion, the focus lock will automatically be released when performing certain actions, such as viewing a bookmark, or a point of interest.
