Managing company user/team permissions to collections

If you need to grant access to one, or more of your point clouds to another user, you have several options.

  1. Share the point cloud with them using point cloud sharing (see this help article)
  2. Share an entire collection with them (which includes the point cloud(s) (see this help article)
  3. Finally, you can also share collections with external teams on the Pointerra website, by using their respective team ID to give them certain permissions over your collection (see this help article).


However, this article focuses on if they are a user within your company. In this case you can edit the permissions on the collection and add the user/team as well as assign specific permissions

Granting permissions to another user/team for one of your collections

This method will give the user access to some of your point clouds through their own account. The point clouds in the collection that you share with them will be visible when they login to their own account  (your account will still be shown as the owner of the point clouds). They will essentially be able to access the point clouds as if they owned them, with whatever permission you assign.

To be able to add an external user into your collection permissions, you will need to know their exact login name (which is typically an email address). You won't be able to just search for them by name. You will instead have to enter their exact login name in the search dialog.

Adding the user to the collection permissions

To add the user, go to your company management page, click on the Point clouds tab, and then navigate to the collection that you want to add the user into. Select Edit collection properties from the menu



From the properties dialog, select Grant additional permissions


Enter the login name of the person that you want to add (note - you must enter the full login name before the search box will return their user name). If the login that you entered matches with a valid Pointerra user, then their name will appear in the drop-down list. Select them from the list as shown below and then click the Add button


Once the user has been added to the collection, you can then edit (1) and assign specific permissions (2) that you wish to grant to the user. Make sure you click the Save (3) button when done.


When the user next logs into their account they will be able to access the point clouds that you have shared with them by clicking on the My Company (1) button at the top right hand side of the page and selecting the Shared with Me (2) tab.
